Andres Quintero is a physician with board certification in Public Health and Preventive Medicine. He is also a Global Medical Affairs director for Pfizer’s hospital business unit, where he currently leads the glucocorticoid portfolio.

He focuses on delivering systems-based solutions through structured problem solving that offers quantitative rigor and qualitative perspective, with an emphasis on deriving defensible, practical, and actionable solutions that emerge from data inferences.

After nearly a decade of adopting analytics in various capacities, he has come to appreciate that this diverse ecosystem faces many challenges. Those challenges are often served well by ensuring that the proper mix of skillsets are represented in all advanced analytics endeavors. By and large, experts with programmatic skills to access and manipulate large datasets are front and center to these endeavors and pairing this with the proper medical subject matter expertise is increasingly recognized as being critical for proper context. What is often missing, however, is the epidemiological expertise that’s necessary for proper methodological oversight. As an early adopter of advanced analytics within Pfizer’s medical affairs function, Dr. Quintero advocates assertively for the representation of these three skillsets as part of stewardship for responsible analytics.

Dr. Quintero is passionate about approaching medicine and decision making as probabilistic endeavors; about recognizing the many tradeoffs at play with various types of data; and proceeding with data-driven endeavors despite those limitations when the next best alternative is to make decisions in the absence of empirical information.
